Special edition mead brewed to raise money for Hannah's Home

We are so lucky at Hannah’s Home to have a partnership with Dreaded Mead

Mikey, the founder, had been brewing five fantastic flavours of mead already when he reached out to the team and suggested brewing a special edition Malawi mead, where £5 from every bottle sold would go to Hannah’s Home.

Here’s what Mikey at Dreaded Mead had to say when we interviewed him at his last event!

Where did you get the inspiration for Malawi Mead?

When I was volunteering for the children’s home back in 2012, we had a lot of mango and papaya for breakfast, and a lot of chilli chicken in the evening. Some of these flavours were the inspiration for the mead. I spoke to a chilli sauce company who knew the exact chilli from Malawi. Unable to import it, they suggested the yellow habanero, which has a similar profile. It’s a citrusy chilli that, when paired with the mango, pays homage to the journey we made and the food we ate.

So just how spicy is Malawi Mead?

Malawi Mead is a hot one! I always ask how my customers are with spice, because it definitely packs a punch! It’s a sweet, fruity heat (300 000 scoville units), but I find the balance is perfect. It doesn’t blow your palette out sweet with a bit of a kick. It doesn’t punch you in the face, but it's there.

Where can I get a bottle of Malawi Mead?

You can buy it on our website, dreadedmead.co.uk or you can come and see us at any of the events we are at in the near future!
